Yay it’s Friday!!! Today I am pretty excited 'cos I am off to a photography course this evening! I’ve only had my camera some two or so years, but hopefully after tonight not everything I know will be self taught. It has been a busy week, so I apologise for the lack of blog posts. I have been putting a big effort into getting Christmas presents made, completed and ordered, plus I actually worked this week. Yes, that is right, I actually left the house and went to work for the first time in 23 days!!! (There was no work due to a shut down for maintenance) I also babysat Miss M and Miss R yesterday and while rock climbing with Miss R at Bar beach I was able to snap this pic of a very grumpy surf. It was cold, and blustery, the beach was closed and the tide was up but Miss R was thrilled with the chance to just got rock climbing with me (I’m talking squealing with delight) without not so brave Miss M in tow (she got to go for coffee with my lady and was equally thrilled). Happy kids all round!

Friday is upon us and a big yay for me causeeeeeeeee my girl has the day off!!! This is pretty rare these days so we are pretty excited and have a day of fun filled excitement planned. Well, a trip to Ikea is our idea of excitement, which considering it involves a 5hr round trip that makes it a pretty big day, but we love it!

 

So time for a simple photo. Today it is Customs House, which is now a hotel/function centre. Built is 1876, it is a gorgeous Victorian building overlooking the foreshore! So pretty.

Friday again and the start of summer. Why do I say that when it is still only November? Cause today the international cricket series kicks off at the GABBA. This to me means the beginning of summer, when the cricket kicks off, so does summer. Weird? Probably. But I love it!

 

But any who, as it is Friday here is 1 simple photo of my town (which has nothing to do with cricket). This is the old car living out its days at Glenrock Reserve, I love driving past there, it has a fantastic view back to the ocean between the hills and it is like taking a step back in time, with the old car and its rustic buildings!

 

Getting back to nature

Firstly I want to apologise for their being no 1 simple photo post on Friday, I didn’t forget per say, more it was the furthest thing from my mind as I busily packed the car for a little camping trip over the weekend! It has been over 18 months since we just got away and did nothing, so it is fair to say this trip was long over due! So while my partner headed to work for a 6am start (I had to drop her there. Yuck!) I got packing the car. Let me explain to you want a task that is. We live in a unit on the top floor of our unit complex, half our camping gear is in the unit the other half is in the laundry, which fortunately is downstairs, add to that the garage is under the front of the complex and our entry is at the rear with a nice steep walkway connecting the two, so packing the car was not as quick nor enjoyable as it should have been, but alas I got it done!

 

With the car all packed, I picked the girl up and we headed off to the campgrounds at Ferndale, which is only about 1hr 20mins from home. We had never been there and didn’t know what to expect, but it was fantastic. Basic, definitely, but Fantastic!!!!! We could pick were we camped, could have a fire and still have hot showers!!! Perfect!

 

The dreaded, I’m sure I forgot something was of course in the back of my mind, and of course I did forget something – the memory card for the camera, not the fully charged camera, no the memory card that goes in it, doh!!!! Solution, pics on my new iPhone5 (yes people I have finally upgraded from the 3) while the battery lasted (man that battery dies quick!)!

 

This was a trip of first’s for the girl, see while I grew up camping with my family, my partner barely went on a holiday, let alone camped! This is not her first camping trip (we ventured out on a 3 week 5000km camping adventure a few years ago) but it was the first time she walked in a river, toasted marshmallows on a fire, cooked on a fire (or more like ate the food cooked on a fire as I did all the cooking) and camped in a remote spot. We both had an awesome time and I am already planning another trip!!! When?? Who knows, but I don’t think 18months between trips is the way to go!!!

 

 

Once camp was set up we needed somewhere to dry the towels!

The drinks needed to be chilled!

   

The fire was started, creating lots of coals and damped right in time to cook dinner!

Boiling the kettle the old school way, complete with the whistle when it is boiled! Now, this little fella was apparently very impressed with my steak cooking abilities after taking it right off my plate as I happily munched away on my dinner. I kid you not, that black thing hanging out of the kookaburra’s mouth would be my steak! It scared the bejeezes out of me, and apparently I squealed like a girl!!!! All I can say is I hope he enjoyed it!!!!!

Friday is here and time for 1 photo. Today I will take you away from the coastal views for a night(ish) shot of the cathedral against the almost completed sunset sky. It seems a fitting away to finish off what has been a bit of a reflective week in our part of the woods!

Friday is here. YAY!!!!! This week I am truly excited that it is Friday, cause that means tomorrow is Saturday, and we actually have plans that we have been counting down too like a kid to Christmas!!!! So woooohooooooooo its Friday!!! 1 more sleep! The sun is shinning and the weather is heating up, summer is drawing near, so here is a picture of a dreamy sunrise from Merewether Heights looking back towards Dixon Park and Bar beaches. (Looks very much like a small seaside village doesn’t?)

Friday is here. For the working class working Monday to Friday it is a day of celebration, 2 whole days of no work and all play, for me, who works on an adhoc basis surrounding the export of grain the celebration comes from the joy that the girl gets two days off and is at my whim and call (or more like I’m at hers lol). So to celebrate Friday and those who relish in the joy of the day I have decided to capture my town (technically a city) and showcase it one photo at a time every Friday!

 

What better way to start off the first photo of my town than to capture its name! Yep, I live in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. Never though I would say that!
